Chute Middle School student Sofia crowned Spanish spelling bee winner

¡Felicitaciones, Sofia! She won the Spanish District-wide spelling bee, becoming champion after correctly spelling “colección” (collection). Words at this year’s Spanish bee, which was hosted at Haven Middle School, included rústico (rustic), gamba (prawn), oir (to hear), pensar (to think), and carbón (carbon).

To get to the District bee, 4th-8th grade students from across the district won their classroom competitions and then a school-wide spelling bee composed of classroom winners.

See photos from the Evanston RoundTable for both the Spanish bee Wednesday and the English bee earlier this month. We are so proud of all participants, and thank you to the many District 65 educators who came to cheer on their students!
