Welcome, Lawrence Prentice, New Chute Middle School Principal

Dear Chute Community -

It is with great pleasure that I announce Lawrence Prentice as the next principal of Chute Middle School! He will officially join District 65 and the Chute community as of July 1.

We are grateful for the staff and families who gave their feedback as part of our community survey and for those who served on the interview panel.Throughout the process, we heard the importance of selecting a leader who values academic excellence and honoring school traditions, and uplifting student voice. Mr. Prentice demonstrated a deep commitment to all of these priorities and a clear passion for supporting middle school students during this important stage of growth and development.

A proud product of Illinois public schools and a first-generation college student, Mr. Prentice brings both personal perspective and extensive educational experience across both K-12 and higher education. Mr. Prentice spent nearly a decade as a teacher and teacher leader in Chicago Public Schools and later served as an Academic Advisor and Adjunct Instructor at both Saint Xavier University and Kankakee Community College. Most recently, he served as Assistant Principal at Gwendolyn Brooks College Preparatory High School where he focused on academic excellence, instructional coaching, and fostering a positive school culture.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Saint Xavier University, along with master’s degrees in Sociology, Education, and Educational Administration. He also earned a Superintendent Endorsement from the University of Illinois at Chicago and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership at Youngstown State University.

Mr. Prentice stood out as a leader who truly puts students first and works closely with others to help every child succeed. He spoke passionately about creating a school where students feel valued, supported, and connected, and about making sure all students have access to the opportunities and support they need to thrive. He also emphasized the importance of strong partnerships with students, educators, and families while maintaining high expectations for all learners.

Outside of school, he enjoys reading, drinking coffee, taking walks along the lake, attending concerts and sporting events, and collecting classic R&B vinyl records.

Our district team looks forward to supporting Mr. Prentice, the staff, and the entire Chute community in ensuring a strong and joyful start to the new school year. Please stay tuned for a welcome message from Mr. Prentice and opportunities to connect later this summer.

Wishing you all a safe, joyful, and restorative summer!

Dr. Angel Turner
